Combs were considered talismans in ancient times, and the "tsuge comb" was already mentioned in the Manyoshu during the Nara period, cherished as a tool in people's daily lives and used continuously since ancient times.
Today, combs are made from various materials, but none seem to possess the charm and natural care for hair that a Japanese boxwood comb does.
The qualities of the tsuge tree and the craftsmanship and spirit of the artisans who dedicate themselves to comb making speak to the hair; this is what can be called a "tsuge comb."
*Due to the nature of handmade products, the listed size and color may differ slightly from the image.
*Please note that since this is natural wood, there may be individual differences in color, knots, grain, etc.
*For maintenance, we recommend using pure camellia oil and a boxwood comb/brush cleaning brush.
If the comb becomes dirty, apply camellia oil to the comb, and after the dirt has floated up, scrub between the teeth of the comb with a dry toothbrush or similar tool, then wipe it off with a tissue. The comb will have an even better color and shine.
*Never wash a comb that you have grown accustomed to with water. This will cause the comb to lose its luster and may cause it to warp or break.
